Art Rooted in Nature and Myth

My name is Daina — an Illustrator working out of Bloomington, Minnesota. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, my artwork centers around my love for the natural world and the stories that tie us to our roots.

My work takes from these concepts to build pieces that speak to my love for nature and story telling through art. I am specifically drawn to myth and how our ancestors shared stories to connect with the natural world around us. Each piece of artwork I create is all drawn from liminal landscapes, Norse and Celtic influence or mythological themes.

My illustrations themselves are done digitally by using Procreate for iPad. Outside of digital illustrations, all other work is done by hand by myself giving each commission respect for authentic art.

Listening to the Land Through Art

I didn't set out to become a conservation minded artist. I set out to paint the land that raised me. Another aspect of my art is to bring awareness to care for our natural world and the planet that we call home.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I spent most of my life exploring many of the natural places that the land has to offer. Having that privilege is the sole driving force behind my passion for conservation efforts through art.

Raven and Cedar Studio got its name from this very concept and my intention is to reach other voices who share the same passion and activism that I do to fight for our natural world through creative expression.

As a mother and a caretaker I find it deeply important to not only be a steward of the land but to share that voice with the generations that follow. One day, this is what I will leave my children and I want to leave them with the same natural beauty that has inspired me so.
